Pafos - where do we stay for self catering?

Hello folks, We%26#39;ve been to Paphos few times over the years and love the place. Usually stay at Sofiana, but I hear it%26#39;s a bit tired and shabby now. And it%26#39;s got quite pricey.

What you you folk recommend, please. We like it quiet, with pool (don%26#39;t like the beach), and nearby restaurants and bars.

Thanks,

tankard

Ive booked to stay at Kefalos Beach Village, my reason for choosing Kefalos is because of the quiet location and restaurants and bars on tomb of the kngs road is only 5mintues away. It is on a beach but ive heard the beach isnt too good so irts not going to get tourists only people from the hotel. This is a self catering complex with the choice of B+B and half board.

Hello BannerandHoose, thanks for your reply.

So tell me what was it like when you stayed there...

I put in my message that i have only booked it, i have not stayed there yet but in you message you said you wanted something quiet and this is what attracted me to Kefalos.

Here is the website www.kefalos.com.cy/

There are alot of good reviews on trip advisor for it.

Try looking for Uk family owned private apartments on the Universal Area. All the ones I know of have large pools, it is pretty quiet as it%26#39;s a residential area, but there is one small shop and an excellent taverna Pambis next door to the shop - home cooked chips, or jacket potato, salad, 5 lamb chops, bread under a fiver - May 2007! If you look for Paradise Gardens, Sirena Sunrise, Sirena Cypria, Diana 44, they are all about 10mins walk from the main bar street, 15 mins from the harbour area, quiet so you hear nothing, but close enough to stagger home late. Also these are close to the shop which is pretty handy when you need milk, fresh bread etc. There are plans to build a supermarket on the estate but not till later this year. Also there is a hospital with a chemist by the side at the far end of the estate, near the Next and Debenhams store. All of these apartments have been built over the past 5 years and are privately owned - not a Thomson Rep and kids club anywhere! Most of the ones I have seen have air con, washing machine, full oven, microwave, Tv, DVD player etc - home from home. Expect to pay up to £400 per week for an apartment sleeping up to 4 people in summer. Even with flightd, it works out loads cheaper than booking a brochure package, as you always get under occupancy charges if there%26#39;s only 2 of you, and then they charge daily for each air con unit, tv, etc etc. Good Luck.

Hi Tankard,

My fiancee, two friends and i have just returned from Paphos having stayed in the Daphne Aparthotel. The room are big with balconies and all you require for self catering including a great hair dryer! There is also great air conditioning which was much needed as the temperature last week was 40 degrees celcius! The staff clean the rooms everyday except Saturdays and leave fresh towels and linen. They are also the friendliest chambermaids I have come across and would do anything for you. The apartments are geared towards couples and families so are not noisy. They are also in the middle of town with plenty of restaurants surrounding the apartments including their own restaurant where we had the best breakfast of our whole trip. They also have a swimming pool although there are not that many deck chairs around it. We didn%26#39;t use the pool being beach lovers but there would have been room for us had we wished to do so. When I reteurn to Paphos some day please God I will definitly stay in the Daphne Apartments. I%26#39;d definitly recommend them. Good Luck with the travels... I%26#39;m quite jealous!!!

Tankard,

We are hoping to go to Paphos next year, and if holidaying in Europe, always book our accomodation and flights seperatly, as it%26#39;s so much cheaper.

We are 2 couples in our mid forties and as we like to have 2 bedroomed apartments if we book through a travel agent we get hammered with surcharges. This is by far the best way to book your self catering holiday. If you look at this website, www.ownersdirect.co.uk you%26#39;ll find hundreds of apartments and villa%26#39;s to rent all over the world.

We have used this website to book holidays to Portugal 2 years ago and again this year, we are staying in the same apartment as last time and it is fabulous. We have also looked at apartments in Paphos for next year and have narrowed the choice down to the last 5. Now it%26#39;s just a case of deciding which one to book.

Most of the owners will arrange transport both from and back to the airport, just one other thing you don%26#39;t have to worry about. No more waiting ages for the coach to fill up and then dropping off at 10 other places before it is your turn.

Try to book your flights as early as possible because the earlier you book them the cheaper it is.

We have holidayed this way quite a few times and have never been disappointed. Also because these apartments are privatly owned and therefore perhaps are someone%26#39;s winter home, there are alway%26#39;s plenty of extra%26#39;s in them. We have never had to buy lilo%26#39;s or beach mats, but likewise if we take books magazines etc then we leave these for the owners or next occupants.

thanks sugarr, wise words :)

We stayed in Kefalos Village last year and can recommend them. I have posted my views on the Paphos hotel site, and most of the other reports are positive. But make sure you book a room with a sea view, it is worth the added small cost, to watch the fab sunsets.

Good Luck
