We are hoping to go to Kyrenia in September but have heard there is extensive building going on.Does anybody know how bad it is please? Having spent a terrible holiday in Cape Verde in April due to filth and building works we are a little apprehensive when anybody mentions building works!!

Hello,
It is true that there is a fair amount of building work going on in general. But there are still some lovely places to stay here, bellapais, kyrenia and nice beaches and restaurants.
It really depends on where you stay, not everywhere is affected by any means. I would check for the hotel you are looking to stay in - and have a look at the tripadvisor reviews for your hotel.
Good luck

Yes, don%26#39;t worry - there are still lots of lovely areas, completely unaffected. It isn%26#39;t anywhere near as bad as some places where there is really intenstive work going on - like Dubai for instance.
Look at the reviews here and ask direct questions of the hotel/villa you are thinking of booking.

Dear Reader,
I have just retured from a 2 week stay at Oscar%26#39;s in Kyrenia.
I also observed a great deal of building work in Northern Cyprus, both completed and unfinished. I have been advised that due to the political situation, you are strongly advised NOT to buy property in Northern Cyprus. The title to the land sems to fall into a rather cloudy area, e.g Turkish, or exchange land with a Greek person now living in Southern Cyprus. I have also been informed that a lot of building has been stopped by the government, due to being financed by money laudering by Eastern European criminals.
On a more practical aspect, from my stay, it is reasonable to state that their is not enough water for all the properties, the supply is often switched off, and also we were subjected to frequent loss of the electricity supply.
If you want to see the vast amount of fly tipping you will also see, please ask to see my pictures!

Hi. There is some building works but no where near as bad as places like Dubai. We have been many times %26amp; love it. Get a car %26amp; drive out to the Karpas - another world. I%26#39;ve been told it%26#39;s like Spain was 30 years ago before it woke up, so enjoy it while you may!

There is an enormous amount of building works going on at the moment. I have just returned from Kyrenia (Girne) and travelled around the island extensively in a hire car but the building works never disturbed me. I think currently the pace of actual work is very low as its just too hot to work (40 degrees C most days). This might change somewhat in September when the temperature drops off a little.
North Cyprus was very quiet whilst we were there and yet it was peak season. I dont know who they think they are going to sell all these villas to! If you are going to go to Northern Cyprus then I would say now is the time before it turns into the Costa Brava.
Of more concern is the fly tippling and large amount of rubish on the quieter beaches. They could do much more to clean the place up.
On balance I would say its well worth a visit, especially if you hire a car and get away from the main resorts. The scenery is impressive, there is a lot of historic sites, the locals are very friendly and there are lots of deserted beaches (especially along the Karpas peninsula).
If you havn%26#39;t been to South Cyprus then I would go there first as the scenery is if anything better, its much cleaner, building is less (having already gone though the building boom of the North) and its easier to get to. The North is however much cheaper than the South.
