Backpacking and Camping in Cyprus

Hi All,

I am due to fly over to Cyprus next month for a friends wedding. As I am travelling on my own and I want to avoid the single person supplements that many operators charge. I have decided to do a little travelling across southern Cyprus and finally end in Ayia Nappa for the wedding.

During my stay I am hoping to do some diving and maybe go to the mountains and basically see the areas of Cyprus that have been over taken by tourism.

Can anyone recommend some places to visit? Hostels or Cheap B%26amp;B’s? Dive Centers or Camp Sites?

Does anyone have any experience of the local transport systems between the towns and villages and give me an idea how much it will cost to travel?

The local transport system is virtually non existent between villages especially during school holidays. There is a limited service between main towns. Most people use taxi service where u can be picked up and share with others these are at regular times door to door. You normally book day before and fares are cheaper than booking a taxi on your own.As to the village accomodation there are lodgings or bed and breakfast in the picturesque villages. I would suggest you visit the following villages Lefkara ,Vouni,Drousia,Tohni,Omodos and Anoyira I dont thinkyou will have a problem finding rooms here. Dont forget hitch hiking is another option between villages and there is virtually no risk to your safety ,people here are very honest and always willing to help strangers.
