Is cyprus really as expensive as they say?

travelling with hubby and two small children every one keeps saying how expensive it is not sure how much money to take .

Even though the cost of living has risen, so has the standard of living.

How much you bring depends on the duration of stay and if you are staying in a hotel and its category with breakfast, half board, all inclusive or in a self catering apt.

For decent dinner expect CY£10-15 per adult, lunch will be less.

Avoid imported beers and wines

Prices in restaurants and bards equate to pretty much the same as they do here in the UK. A little cheaper maybe. Shopping is cheaper.

I think it%26#39;s only expensive when comparing it to what it used to be..

Before Cyprus joined the EU it was cheap.........evening meal £6 -£8 (CY) , bottle wine in restaurant, under £5CY, but now its in the EU, a meal will cost £10CY+ and a bottle of wine £7-£8 CY........

But I still think its cheaper then England...........

Most restaurants will do kiddies menus.......

Are you hotelling it or Self catering???

Lunchtimes meal.....Salads for £2.50CY...burger and chips about the same price, so not so bad.....

Just returned today from Pernera. Two of us having starter and main course with one drink was between £21.00 and £30.00. Prices have definitely increased considerably in the last few years. We are not unduly extravagent and took £1,000 for two weeks allowing for the fact we do enjoy a drink in the evening with friends but even so had to make use of the credit card!

Wow Cyprusnut

Thats a lot of money.............were you self catering???.....did you eat out all the time??

I%26#39;m going in a couple of weeks, to a hotel on B%26amp;B basis, I%26#39;m only going for 1 week, but have only got about £150CY in currency.........I dont drink a lot but do intend to eat out every night...........definately making sure my card goes with me!!!! Will definately be making lots of visits to %26#39;%26#39;hole in the wall%26#39;%26#39;%26#39;!!!

Blimey it%26#39;s only 12 months since my last visit, I hope things havn%26#39;t gone up that much!!

Rising Star is a great choice, im going on 23/09/07 for my 8th time to Protaras, like one previous post, me and my girlfriend spend a thousand pounds for 2 weeks self catering

|||

Cyprunut...that sounds about right...it%26#39;s not extravagant at that price. It%26#39;s no point telling people it%26#39;s very cheap when that is the truth.....hey...that%26#39;s why we%26#39;re on this site

Salsalady....i would never take less than cyp50 to the beach. We go to a small beach that not many know about. but by the time you.ve put on bottles of water, sunbeds, umbrella%26#39;s, a couple of sandwiches, one beer, two cokes and taxi back....it%26#39;s nice to have some change still in pocket to get another couple of waters to take back from market in to hotel room
