Hello,
my parents live in Cyprus and have done so for many years. They are very happy and the pace of life and the climate seem to suit them. They planned there move very carefully over many years, and bought their property years before they actually made the move.
They have a very good mix of friends (Cypriots as well as English).Over the past few years they have lost a large percentage of their friends who have returned to the UK.Some have returned through ill health (private medical insurance can be expensive) others have found that the cost of living is beyond their means.
Winter can also be cold in Cyprus, from November to Feb and some times up until April can be cold and very wet.Property in Cyprus is seldom built to the same standards as in the UK-unless you specify, they can take some heating and heating oil is more expensive than the UK.
Saying that my parents love Cyprus and would never return to the Uk.Paphos area is very English (a little England) even around the suburbs (Peyia)Limassol is more cosmopolitan and tends to be alot more Cypriot. The villages and countryside around Limassol are more Cypriot, the majority of villages around Paphos tend to be more touristy and ex pat based.
Good luck,do your homework and you will not go wrong...and please if you want to buy a property do not forget to bartyr on the price!!!!!!!

Thankyou so much for your reply it has been very informative. I keep reading its very cheap to live there but as you have family there you will know best. My partner and i have come to a stage of wanting to change our lives and was thinking of buying a B%26amp;B somewhere in England but have talked to a few people who have mentioned living in Cyprus would be better. I see from your reply you are from the Lakes, we live near Kirkby Lonsdale so not far away and was up in Keswick looking at B%26amp;Bs there the other day. Its so beautiful even where we live but the weather has been horrendous this year and i do love the sun. We are going out to Cyprus maybe next week or the week after but we are going to an exhibition first in Burnley. Although i think it would be best to rent out there first before rushing into anything to get the feel of the place. Thankyou again for your info.

Hello Again,
we are going for three weeks on Sat.When you arrive in Cyprus try ringing Peter Stephenson properties. He is an Engilsh chap with a Cypriot wife.A good honest man,he would certainly show you around the island and advise on prices etc.He has a website under the same name,we bought our property in Cyprus from him.
By the way we live in Storth nr Arnside, and our daughter goes to QES school in Kirby Lonsdale.
Any help you require just drop me a line.
Kind regards.

Hi,
There are a couple of other forums dedicated to those living in, or thinking of living in Cyprus that may be of interest to you- easterncyprus.com and cyprusliving.netfirms.com

And also have a good read of www.cyprus-property-action-group.net

Having made the move from England 17 year ago I feel qualified to make a few suggestions on living in Cyprus.
First always rent before you make decision to buy.Second ask around about honest Estate Agents they are rare but they exhist. Read up and do your own homework on the price of housing.
We chose Larnaca to make our home and are very happy !We were guided by Michael at Barons Estates opposite American Academy here in Larnaca. He gave good advice with no pressure.Good luck Im sure you will love this place like we do.
