Sunrise Beach- eat in or eat out?

Hi there, I%26#39;m going to the sunrise beach with my 15 yr old daughter in August and we%26#39;re having bed and breakfast. Please can anyone advise me if it is worth paying for half board or can you let me know of some good restaurants/bars nearby? We both like Italian, chinese and english type food!

Also, does anyone know if the hotel has been refurbished yet?

Thanks, Katy.

HI there

We are going to Sunrise Beach on Sunday..........I havn%26#39;t been before, but I do know that it has been refurbished.........you should read the posts on%26#39; %26#39;%26#39;%26#39;Sunrise Beach Wedding Protaras%26#39;%26#39;%26#39;, there is lots of info about the hotel...........

We are doing B%26amp;B, cos we like to eat out in the evenings..........there are lots of restaurants that would suit your needs........there%26#39;s a very nice Italian next door to Il Basilico...out of hotel turn left, just before the turning for the Capo Bay hotel.....if you keep walking past hotel, you will come to a huge Chinese restaurant, although its quite pricey and portions are quite small..........there is another chinese at the other end of resort...near to Oscars.....

%26#39;%26#39; English%26#39;%26#39; restaurants are too many to mention..........

Hope this helps........

I will be posting my comments on the hotel upon my return...

Hi, Salsa Lady,

Thanks for the info!

Have a nice time! I will be asking you questions on your return!!!

hi,

when we stayed at Sunrise beach we were on b%26amp;b, on arrival we were offered a choice of 5 or 7 nights half board, can%26#39;t remember how much this was going to cost, but after having a wander round %26amp; looking at prices in restaurants we figured that eating out was best option as there is more choice %26amp; cheaper, although we heard good comments about the food at the hotel. They do several themed nights each week eg. flambe, chinese etc.

You will be able to get any type of food in protaras including Mac Donalds %26amp; Pizza Hut !!

Eat out,no question!!

Andama,Promises,Nicolas,Divas restaurants all on the main strip along with others(Italian,Mexican,Chinese)Also head down some of the side roads which head down to the beach and you%26#39;ll find even more.Another I would recommend is Anatolia which is up on the main road heading into Pernera.

Hi Katy

Have now returned fom Sunrise Beach.........we had a fantastic holiday, lovely hotel, lovely weather, lovely everything..........

WE did B %26amp; B, but we did eat in the hotel once, for the BBQ nite.it was £12.00 each. It was worth every penny, food was very good and there was a good choice..........

YOu dont have to change to Half board, you can just come and go as you want in the evening, every night was basically a different theme, but the price was always £12.00, unless it was A la Carte night, when the cost was £14.50 pp........

Lots of nice restaurants though...........Andamas was the best ( up to main road, turn right about 100yds, on opposite side of road , just past Eden Square, where Pizza Hut is)..... WE ate in there 3 nights.......also, Romeos quite nice.....main road, turn left, past the fountains (doesnt look much from outside, but food is lovely) restaurant Italiano, (opposite the Love Boat pub)...nice as well..

Yes Katy, it has been refurbished..our room (222) was great...ignore the comments about the towels, they are big, white and very thick and fluffy..........towels changed daily and bedding twice a week...........huge balconies.........

WE did pay £1 per day for the safe, but when I asked about paying for the fridge, she said she would only charge me for 5 days in stead of 7.........cost me £15 as opposed to £21..........

Little tip though..........I would recommend emailing the hotel regarding your sunbeds...........these are allocated on arrival, but trust me if you want a bed near the pool, you%26#39;ll probably be out of luck.........when we arrived on Sunday afternoon, I went to pool attendant and asked for a bed near pool, he said no chance, he said you could only have pool area if you had prvously emailed (which I had), when I told him this, he pulled out a file full of emails, found mine, and then said %26quot; no problem%26quot; and gave me 2 beds (which up until that moment were all in use!!!!)

If you need any more info, let me know!!

Hi Karen, (salsalady),

Glad you had a nice holiday!

Thanks for all the info! You have set my mind at rest and am looking forward to August now! lol! I will probably be asking you a few questions nearer the time but heres a few for now!!

What are the breakfasts like?

Is the fridge also a mini bar filled with items?

Is it better to have sunbeds by the pool or on the grass regarding it being very busy and are beach towels provided?

Is there waiter service by the pool for drinks?

If you dont use your sunbeds for one day does someone else get them?

Do you have to pay for beds on the beach by the hotel?

Whats the entertainment like?

I have booked a sea view room, is it better to request a high floor room?

Are sterling travellers cheques accepted?

Finally....is it true that your handbag is counted as your one item of hand luggage and are there still restrictions in place?

I look forward to your reply!!

Thanks,

Katy.

Right then, will try to remember all your questions:

Breakfast was very nice...self service, but waiter service for the tea/coffee etc. lots of choice...cereals, fruits, bacon, eggs, toms, beans etc........donuts, danish pastries, croissants, toast.....fresh fruit..

Fridge in the room was empty, there was a large bottle of water which was complimentary, as said previously they charged us for 5 days only (£15) so really only £2 per day.....(worth every penny)...we took a kettle and tea and coffee, so could buy milk too put in fridge...

Sunbeds........we were1 row back from pool side (only 2 rows anyway!!). Not too noisy........I thought better than grassy area.....but if you do end up on grass, ask for the grass near the pool bar, as other side goes into shade too early, and all wedding pictures are taken there........The sunbeds are yours for the duration, but alot of people didnt know about the allocation system and just plonked themselves anywhere....you just have to ask them to move.no probs...beach towels are free and very large, pool attendant supplies them and you can change them as many times as you want and have as many as you want..

Sunbeds on beach cost £1.25 each per day and parasols cost £1.75 per day...

Entertainment...not bad........starts after 10pm.........singer on a Tuesday called Nick, very good, really gets the crowd going.....other nights included: a magician.....naff..........some dancers........pretty naff......a quiz nite which was a laugh...(our team won it.....we won ONE drink each!!!)

Sea View rooms..... go for 2nd floor at least, we were on 2nd floor and view was good.........beware though as some of the sea views rooms (above the breakfast area) had very small balconies.......all the rest had large balconies..........

Hand luggage..........dunno where you%26#39;re flying from , but Luton airport is not part of BAA and so their rules (1 handbag AND 1 piece of hand luggage) do not count.....I had a handbag over my shoulder and a vanity case, and they made me squeeze my handbag into my little vanity case.........they were very stroppy and jobsworthy!!!

Perfume etc.....must be in clear plastic self seal bag no bigger then 8%26quot; x 8%26quot;.........and no bottles larger than 100ml.........(I bought travel bottles from boots)...........lipsticks mascara etc can go in makeup bag in hand luggage no probs there.

FINALLY%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

I dont know about travel chqs cos I only took currency.........

But I will tell you this, on the strip they were offering an exchange rate of .8450 for cash and in hotel they offered .7900.......dreadful exchange rate........

Hope this all helps Katy....I%26#39;m now off to see the doctors about my RSI..............ha ha .............lol

OH!!! I knew I would forget one of your questions!!!!

Yes, there is waiter service around the pool for drinks and for snacks from pool bar.........

They also bring round complimentary fruit in the afternoons...very nice.........pieces of melons, apples, oranges on cocktail sticks..nice touch I thought!

|||

Hi Karen,

Thank you soooo much for all the info!!!!!

Just one last question.....ha ha! for now anyway....

you mentioned waiter service etc... can you charge this to your room or do you have to pay by cash and also for when you have a meal at night there?

I am flying from Manchester.

Thanks again,

Katy.

|||

Hi Katy

Dont know whether Manchester Airport comes under BAA, check their website, if it does then you can take a handbag and 1 piece of hand luggage...........

Waiter service.......... yes you can charge everything to your room, when they serve you, they ask whether its cash or charge.........the same applies in the restaurant and bars........only place you cant charge is in the hotel shop (but I think thats a seperate concern)

Only thing is with the charging, they dont ask for any proof of your room no. ..............infact they dont even ask if you%26#39;re staying there???

We jokingly once gave our friends room number to the waitress, they were with us, dont worry...but the staff didnt question it???!!!!

Same at breakfast, they dont ask for any proof that your%26#39;e a guest, someone was saying one morning that the previous week, a couple had been coming into restaurant from the beach and taking away, plates of toast, cakes etc.......filling up their bottles with juice etc....
