Almond Holiday Village, Alsancak

Just booked a fortnight here for July/Aug ths year. I%26#39;ve researched the place and everyone seems very complimentary about it. Anyone actually been there recently as I%26#39;d love to hear about anyone%26#39;s views and recommendations. We are a family of 4 (daughter almost 16 and son 12) Thanks

My husband and I have been going to Almond Village for the last 3 Years and are going again in June,I am sure you won%26#39;t be dissapointed,I.m not sure about your children though. If they are happy with swimming and sunbathing and just chilling out, they will enjoy.Having said that, there is a pool table and table tennis, both in the shade under the pool bar..

If you are beach lovers ther are a couple of nice beaches nearby,Escape beach and the private beach at LA Hotel in lapta, both of which will cost you about £2.50 per person a day.If you like various water sports,I would recommend Escape beach.Neither of these beaches are within walking distance, but can be reached by local Dolmus that you can catch on the main road about 5 minutes walk from Almond.

If you intend to go further afield.you should consider hiring a car for about £16 a day.Ask Gulten at Almond Village for details before you arrive.

The food at Almond village is very good, but there are several other options round about including, french, chineese,Turkish,Indian and of course,English.

Enjoy your stay at Almond, and if there is anything else you want to know, please just ask.

Thanks ncypruslover.

We have wanted to visit N Cyprus for many years, went to the southern side about 20 yrs ago (before it got too commercialised, and loved it!) We realise that the north will be far less commercial and are looking forward to that. We have holidayed in many Greek islands before and enjoy the laid back pace. I%26#39;ve told the kids to take a few good books and I%26#39;m sure the football and table tennis table will get some use!

We intend to hire a car when we get there, how long do you think it will be advisable to have one? Will we need it for the whole holiday? Almond Village looks lovely and we can%26#39;t wait although hubbie is a bit worried about the heat!

If I were you I would think about hiring a car for at least a week. We usually chill out for the first few days lazing around the pool before we get our car.As it is your first visit,it depends if you like sight seeing as to how long you get a car for.But even if you don%26#39;t most of the good restaurants are a ride away. But don%26#39;t worry, getting cabs is very easy and quite reasonable.

As for the heat,it will be very hot when you are going, but I,m sure you will cope. The villas at Almond are air conditioned, and you can always go for a dip in the magnificent pool. Also we have been known to go for a ride in the car with the air conditioning on just to cool down.

Anymore question,please ask.

Thanks again. I think we%26#39;ll probably be hiring a car for about a week. What are the restaurants actually in Alsancak like? Are there many? Also how are the prices now? I know they havent gone over to the euro but we%26#39;ve noticed quite a difference in Greek island prices since they converted ( up not down.) I%26#39;ve also read its better to take stirling and change money when we arrive, do you think thats the case? Sorry about all these questions, but I%26#39;m getting excited about our holiday now!

There are some local Restaurants around Almond Village,A very nice fish Restaurant,A Pizza place and one that all the locals use called Cenap in the village, that is a meze restaurant,it is very cheap and loads of food if you like the Turkish food,About £8 a head including drinks( when we went last we stopped counting after about 30 dishes had been brought out.)

As for prices, they have risen over the last few years, but things are still a lot cheaper than in the south.Average price for a meal at most of the places are between £10 to £15 a head depending where you go.There are also a couple of Burger places now in Kyrenia.Very cheap.Petrol and cigarettes are very cheap,if you are smokers and are flying into Ercan,Buy them when you land, about £12 for 200.Just a little more expensive in the local shops.

Sterling is accepted in most places, but some of the small local places prefer Turkish lira. And sometimes you get a better deal by paying in turkish. Also when it comes to changing money,we never use travellers cheques any more,as you get a much better exchange rate for sterling.Almond will change money for you ,but we always go to Kyrenia to change ours, much better rate and they don%26#39;t charge to change it..Almond have a safe where you can keep valuables at no charge

.

Hope this information helps

Cheers again Pat.

I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ll be back to ask more questions later.

It%26#39;s good to talk to someone who has been to Almond Village before and knows the area.

Thanks

Hi Naomi,

I will look forward to your report when you return. We%26#39;ll miss each other by a few days!

I also researched N Cyprus and places to stay a good deal before we eventually decided upon Almond Village and everything I found out about the place was good. I even phoned Direct Holidays who offer this accommodation and the girl I spoke to said how lovely the villas were and if we decided to stay there it would be a very good choice!

Needless to say I took her advice and then booked it myself (like you) direct ,saving about £400.

Enjoy your hols
