driving from coral bay

I%26#39;m going to aqua Sol Hotel next month and was wondering whether it is worth hiring a car for a few days and if so where would you visit from the coral bay area.

thanks

Definitely hire a car and see a bit more of the island.

From Coral Bay the Adonis Baths are worth a look but don%26#39;t plan a half day trip because you only need an hour. If you are brave you can dive off the rocks but the water is FREEZING. A drive up the Akamas to the turtle beach at Lara Bay is a nice drive (you may prefer a 4x4 for that trip as the road is a bit rough in places).

A drive into the mountains is lovely if you don%26#39;t mind heights and the views down to the coast are breathtaking so don%26#39;t forget your camera.

A bit further afield is Aphrodite%26#39;s Rock. It is on the coast road heading towards Limassol. There isn%26#39;t much there apart from a little shingle beach and a cafe but it is one of Cyprus%26#39;s most famous sights so it would be a shame to miss it.

I am sure people on TA will have their own favourites for a day out but my personal favourite when hiring a car is just to get in it and go. Roll the windows down and enjoy the warm breeze. Stop for a snack or lunch at a cafe of the beaten track, enjoy some genuine Cypriot hospitality and lap up the peace and quiet away from the resort centre.

I%26#39;ve stayed at Aqua Sol myself and it%26#39;s a very good location to explore from. I%26#39;ve been to Cyprus many times and can also suggest, in addition to the above, a drive to the north coast to Latchi and Polis. The Bath%26#39;s of Aphroditi are that way (Latchi) and the beach is nice and secluded.

Also, a look closer to home at the Tombs of the Kings is well worth it and if you don%26#39;t mind a longer drive, Kourion at Limassol is well worth it for history buffs!

Enjoy the place and I can%26#39;t recommend more highly an evening meal at Seriani in Coral Bay and likewise drinks at Coral Sunset afterwards.

Enjoy!!

Hi,

Definitely hire a car and if you go up into the mountains or to the Akamas, I wouldn%26#39;t attempt either again without a 4x4. (Getting stuck in our rental car on a track halfway up a mountain was too much drama for me!)

I agree with all the recommendations op have given, although personally I%26#39;d only visit Aphrodite%26#39;s Rock if I was passing - combine it with another trip then you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

IMO the castle at Kolossi is unmissable, as is the Kourion, and Aphrodite%26#39;s Baths are worth a visit too. (The reps may tell you that a 4x4 is needed for the latter, but this is one instance where I disagree - an ordinary car is fine.) The Temple of Apollo is fantastic, particularly at sunset.

We stayed just outside Coral Bay in a villa and used the car practically every day. Personally we didn%26#39;t rate the beach at Coral Bay - cramped and dirty shingle and the sea was too rough when we ventured into the Akamas. For black sand try Governor%26#39;s beach near Limassol.

:)

Thanks for your ideas for my trip, I will definately hiring a car to see more of the island.

If you have any others tips for holidaying in the Coral Bay area it would be welcomed.

thanks

Go into Pegeia village, across from coral bay and taste local food at the tavernas.

DO not miss Lara bay, that others suggest above, possibly the best beach on the island, but you do need a 4x4.

Go to Latsi to swim, ask for Yiannakis beach just before baths of aphrodite. second best beach in the area (after lara).

Lara beach is definately the best by a mile... and you can do it in a hire car.. we did it 3 times end of june in a micra and a notre.. take it easy ..well worth it!
